Born and bred in Lancashire, Ruth was a teacher and lecturer in speech and drama for many years and now works as an actress.   

In 2008 Ruth won a Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for her performance in Ways to Look at Fish by Colette Kane at the Manchester 24:7 Festival and reprised at Bolton Octagon, Theatre 503 and The Library Theatre, Manchester.

Other theatre includes Nevermind at The Old Red Lion, Matryoshka at The Landor Theatre and Crying in the Chapel at Contact Theatre, Manchester. 

Her TV credits include Coronation Street where she played Nancy Gaskell, the chairwoman of Blanche’s famous One O’Clock Club .
